Confused about what prayer journaling is? Check out my post on prayer journaling titled The Power of Prayer Journaling.
All you need to get started is a journal and a pen. That is the beauty of prayer journaling. Depending on how creative you want to get, there are other materials such as post-it notes and fun pens, but I will get to that later. First, you have to pick a journal if you don't already have one.
Choosing a journal:
My journal is a simple dot-lined notebook that I found at Walmart. I enjoy putting stickers on the outside that remind me of memories made while writing in the notebook. I like the dot-lined pages because I feel like it gives me more freedom to draw, do fun lettering and break my pages into different parts. Some people prefer lined pages, others like completely blank pages with no lines or dots at all. What is most important is figuring out what works for you, and sometimes you won't know what that is without a little trial and error.
If you are looking for a journal I recommend checking Walmart, Target, or Hobby Lobby. If you are looking for something a little more unique, I recommend checking T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or local boutiques. The world is your oyster. Find a journal you love!
What about guided prayer journals?
Personally, I love the freedom of a blank page. But if the blank page intimidates you, check out my post with 25 Prompts for Deeper Prayer Journaling. If you prefer more structure, a guided prayer journal may be good for you to try. Here are some guided prayer journals I recommend.

How do I get started writing?
I have compiled a list of styles of journaling to get you started, as well as some prompts for if you get stuck. They are both found in my post titled 25 Prompts for Deeper Prayer Journaling. In that post, I have included a free printable to keep in your journal for reference when writers' block hits.
